Charitable Tax Seminar for Professionals on June 3

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Professional Advisory Council is hosting the 38th annual Charitable Tax Seminar entitled, “Helping Your Clients Live Well Today & Plan for Tomorrow.”  Topics will include practical application of the Ohio Trust Code, growing business with the use of social media, a federal tax update, trustee discretion and fiduciary duty, global competition and more.

The seminar is on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Heights.  Registration and a continental breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m. (kosher dietary laws observed).  The program starts at 8:00 a.m., includes lunch with a speaker and concludes at 1:30 p.m.  Cost is $70 per person (not deductible for charitable tax purposes), which includes registration, seminar materials, certification as appropriate for 3.50 hours of presentations, breakfast and lunch.  There is no charge for summer and first-year associates.

Ellen E. Halfon, Esq., Jones Day, is the seminar chair.  Howard B. Edelstein, CLU, AEP, Edelstein Financial Corp., is the Professional Advisory Council chair.  Featured speakers include Aaron M. Caplan, Aypho.com; Robert E. Eckardt, Cleveland Foundation; Joanne E. Hindel, Esq., Fifth Third Private Bank; Stephen J. Knerly, Jr., Esq., Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP; Franklin C. Malemud, Esq., Reminger Co., L.P.A.; Bruce McCain, Ph.D., CFA, Key Private Bank; Erica E. McGregor, Esq., Tucker Ellis & West LLP; and Leon A. Weiss, Esq., Reminger Co., L.P.A.

The seminar is designed to assist accountants, attorneys, financial planners, insurance professionals and others in advising clients regarding charitable gift planning and other planning matters, thereby benefiting both donors and charitable organizations.  Credits are confirmed for attorneys, accountants and certified financial planners.  The Federation has applied for continuing education credits for insurance professionals.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Professional Advisory Council provides educational seminars for Federation donors and professional advisors in an effort to help clients with charitable gift planning.
