Approximately 1,000 Expected at Free, Family-friendly Community-wide Celebration of Israel’s 63rd Anniversary, Monday Evening, May 9

WHAT:  The evening begins with Yom Hazikaron (6:00 – 6:35 p.m.), or Day of Remembrance, a memorial ceremony for those who lost their lives protecting the State of Israel, as well as in terrorist attacks.

Yom Ha’atzmaut (6:35 – 9:00 p.m.), or Israel’s Independence Day, is a festivity that marks the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.  Headlining this year’s celebration is the Israeli music group, The Shimons, who are proudly from Cleveland’s partnership region in Beit Shean, Israel.  Other festivities include arts & crafts, strolling entertainers, Israeli dancing, Yiddishe Cup Klezmer Band, PJ Library Raffle, Magen David Adom ambulance, an Israeli food court and a marketplace with Israeli and local vendors.

WHO:  Approximately 1,000 Jewish community members are expected to attend.  The evening is hosted by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and The Park Synagogue with the generous support of Michael Zweig, J.P.Morgan, the Cleveland Jewish News as well as 40 local synagogues, schools, agencies and organizations.  Co-chairs of the event are Reneé Chelm, Lydia Frankel and Becky Heller.

WHEN:  Monday, May 9, 2011,  6 – 9 p.m.

WHERE:The Park Synagogue – Main, 3300 Mayfield Road, Cleveland Heights

WHY:  The Jewish community comes together to honor those who have fallen defending the Jewish homeland and to celebrate Israel’s 63rd anniversary.
