Blog Post Week of July 19 – 25, 2012

Image Thursday started early in the morning, like most Thursday’s.  After congregating outside of Beit Leni the group piled into the bus and, as we have become accustom to doing, quickly fell asleep for the bus ride to the north. After what seemed like 15 minutess of sleep on the bus, which turned out to actually be  a couple hours later, we arrived at a place in the Galilee called Kishorit.  After a short introduction video and talk about what Kishorit does we received a tour of the grounds.

Before going into what happened on our tour I want to take a little bit of time to highlight what Kishorit does.  Kishorit is a community that is dedicated to serving Israeli adults with special needs. Not only does Kishorit provide health services to Israeli’s with special needs, but they also help them live fulfilling lives.  All the members of the community have jobs in the community that range from toy building to caring for horses.

While on our tour we got to meet a few of the community members.  One of the highlights of the day was going to see where all the animals were kept in Kishorit.
The first stop was where the goats were kept.  Kishorit is actually Israel’s top provider of organic goat’s milk.  After getting a chance to feed the goats we moved on to the horse stables and then to the dog kennel.
The kennel was a huge attraction because we got to play with some puppies.  Overall, the day was truly amazing.  It was an incredible place to visit and I am really glad that we were able to see a place that is truly making a difference in this world.

The rest of the weekend went by in a flash.  It was the first weekend that we had fully off and each member of the group decided to celebrate this freedom in their own special way.  I took the weekend to recover.  Everything up to this point has felt like we’ve been moving at a million miles per hour.  I decided to just take the weekend to drink in the city of Tel Aviv.  I just walked around and tried to familiarize myself even more with a city that (while it feels like I’ve been here for years) I have only known for 5 weeks.

The fact that this trip is past the halfway point is finally starting to hit me and I am realizing that the real world is waiting for me when I get back.  However, this has been a good realization, because it has forced me to make the most of every day that I have left.  I am really looking forward to the last couple of weeks ahead.  I am sure that they will be just as amazing as the last 5 have been.
