National Council of Jewish Women, Cleveland Section to Receive Zehman Volunteer Award

Cathleen Schine, international best-selling novelist and author of The Three Weissmanns of Westport, will be featured at the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland’s Women’s Division spring luncheon on Monday, May 3, 2010, 11:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m., at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Heights. Schine’s wit and insightful views of people and the world they inhabit has endeared her to readers across the globe. A HEALTH CARE SYMPOSIUM FEATURING CONGRESSWOMAN MARCIA L. FUDGE AND FRED ROTHSTEIN MD, PRESIDENT OF UH CASE MEDICAL CENTER

On May 23 and May 24, Siegal College of Judaic Studies will present the Mt. Sinai Health Care Symposium: “Health Care in America, What is it and What Could it Be?,” an intensive look at the health care system and how it can be navigated today.  This two-day event will be led by esteemed professionals in the medical, political, legal and Judaic fields and delve into the issues and concerns being raised by Americans everywhere.  Held at Siegal College, 26500 Shaker Blvd, Beachwood on Sunday, May 23 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm and on Monday, May 24 from 8:45 am – 12:15 pm, the symposium will feature more than ten speakers including Congresswoman Marcia L. Federation’s 106th Annual Meeting Set for April 26

The Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland’s 106th Annual Meeting will take place on Monday, April 26, at 7 p.m., at B’nai Jeshurun Congregation, 27501 Fairmount Boulevard in Pepper Pike.  A highlight of the event will be the recognition of Senator George Voinovich and Kol Israel Foundation as dual recipients of the 2009 Charles Eisenman Award for outstanding community service, the highest honor accorded by the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland. WHAT: The Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland is recognizing donors to the 2010 Campaign for Jewish Needs at an event featuring Mitch Albom, best-selling author of Tuesdays with Morrie, The Five People You Meet in Heaven and For One More Day. He also is a columnist for the Detroit Free Press, a radio host and television commentator.  He will speak about his latest book, have a little faith, the true story of a rabbi and an African-American pastor and their messages of faith.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 13, 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Executive Caterers at Landerhaven, 6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Heights

WHO: Hundreds of community members who support Jewish Community Federation projects that serve 40,000 people in the Jewish and general communities of Greater Cleveland and thousands more people worldwide

WHY: The event is to honor donors who make a gift of $180 or more to the 2010 Campaign for Jewish Needs.  The Federation’s 2010 Campaign, chaired by Michael Siegal, continues through May 12.

JEWISH COMMUNITY FEDERATION OFFERS PRESENTENSE FELLOWSHIPS FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS

The Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland is funding a pilot program in partnership with the PresenTense Group to develop three innovative Jewish ventures put forth by community members.

This competitive fellowship, available to three outstanding young individuals, will begin by identifying social entrepreneurs in the Cleveland area and equipping them with the resources needed to launch their ideas.  Fellows will be sent to The PresenTense Summer Institute, a six week training program in Jerusalem, where these young entrepreneurs will connect with innovators from around the world and develop the resources to bring their social innovation to sustainable fruition.
